This page has been made in order to show you, using images and brief instructions, how to install the Ubuntu Operating System onto Linux. This Operating System is going to be installed onto a Lenovo G550 model. To find more information about installing applications software that is supported by this Operating system, please progress onto the following link: http://treestechnologyblog.weebly.com/installing-applications.html
This Operating System is mostly recommended to people who are tired of the more common Operating Systems, such as Windows and Mac OSX. This Operating System was designed for personal computers, embedded devices and mobile devices. It is very secure and almost completely unaffected by viruses. The process of installing this Operating System should take no longer than half an hour.
STEP ONE:
Turn on your computer and insert the Ubuntu software CD into the disk drive.
STEP TWO:
Before the computer screen loads, press the 'f12' button on your keyboard and wait until a menu appears.
STEP THREE:
Wait for the installation start-up menu to load.
STEP FOUR:
Select the 'Install Ubuntu' option and choose your preferred language settings. Then press continue.
STEP FIVE:
Select 'Replace Windows 7 (for example) with Ubuntu'. There will be a warning that this option will delete all of your current Operating System's files. Make sure you have everything you need from your current system saved on another hard drive before you go onto the next step. Press continue.
STEP SIX:
Choose your keyboard layout and select the appropriate country. The default setting should be English (UK). Press continue.
STEP SEVEN:
Fill in your details: Name, user picture (optional), computer name, user name and password. Press continue.
STEP EIGHT:
You will then see a progress bar at the bottom of the Welcome page. Wait for the installation to finish. (Whilst waiting you can read about the new features of your Operating System.)
STEP NINE:
Once the installation is complete, click on the 'Restart now' option to reload your computer. Remove the disk and close the disk tray. Press the 'Enter' key on your keyboard.
STEP TEN:
Wait for your new system to load and type in your password to log in.
This installation worked perfectly and it was easy to use. However, the Internet would not work. We think this is because the model did not have a Network card installed, meaning that access to the Internet was not allowed.
